Can the MB Clutch Kit handle 380BHP on my MK5 GTI?
It is not so much horsepower but torque that wears out the clutch. The MB clutch for the MK5 should be good for up to 400lb/ft of torque. For anything beyond that we recommend the MS clutch kit.
Description
The MA Clutch Kit is perfect performance for drivers with moderately modified cars or performance oriented driving styles. The MA Clutch Kit is the OE style replacement clutch kit for their vehicle. A flywheel is included within the kit and replaces the factory flywheel or Dual Mass Flywheel (when applicable).
The MB Clutch Kit assembly provides up to 80% increase in torque capacity and is ideally suited for aggressive street use and moderate track use. The composition of woven brass and organic material with alloy backings provides smooth engagements and extended life. A flywheel is included within the kit and replaces the factory flywheel or Dual Mass Flywheel (when applicable).
The MS Twin Disc Clutch Kit are designed to hold 100 to 200% more torque capacity to the wheels with sprung organic discs. DKM MB
So I have a 40k on my DKM clutch with stage 2 APR tune. its held up great so far and it grips really great. The rattle is pretty loud but it is bearable for a daily, overall i would recommend this clutch to someone who is planning on staying around the 300-400 hp range.
dkm stage 2 clutch
great clutch. A little harder pedal but it's still in break in period . Also there is some chatter at idle when in nuetral but not annoying; sounds like a disel. but man this clutch feels robust and ready for higher up numbers. I recommend it.
Now I can Feel the Power of my Tune!
I am a consumer that always questions my decisions. I did a Stage 1 APR flash and my clutch started slipping immediately. After installing this clutch it was really stiff and I thought I had ruined my daily driver by making it too much work to drive. But after breaking it in the clutch feels great and delivers the power great. It really loosened up. The single mass fly wheel also sounds really good. I don't find it annoying at all. It chatters a little at idle, kinda sounds like i'm driving a TDi. The sound doesn't bother me, I actually like it. It also makes some noise pulling away at low RPMs which makes it sounds strong, which I also like. Once above 2,000 RPM it sounds close to stock. Engagement it also very good. Strong and direct. Once I broke it in I was able to drive smooth. Again close to stock. But the best part is how is puts down the power. It is way above my expectations. I would buy it again.
